Nextdoor is a private social network for neighbors. It strives to be the easiest way for communities
to connect online about local issues and services that matter. Thousands of neighborhoods in the
U.S. are already using Nextdoor to build happier, safer, and better connected places.
Nextdoor has seen some success by connecting neighbors online through topics ranging from
neighborhood watches, to recommended babysitters, to help finding a lost dog. Now Nextdoor
wants to expand its services through its new program the Nextdoor Speaker
Series: a platform that allows a motivated community member to open up his/her home and to host
talks by authors, artists, musicians, politicians, or to anyone with something meaningful to say
about local issues.
My role & solution:
A new platform within nextdoor.com that allows a motivated community member to open up his/her home and to host talks by authors, artists, musicians, politicians, or to anyone with something meaningful to say about local issues
Our idea to address this problem is to create the section that includes all the pieces needed to facilitate the speaker series in the neighborhood.
The main group(s) of people who will benefit from our solution will be nextdoor neighbors.
The primary business goal our solution addresses is provide a platform for neighbors to contact speakers, create the event, collect any ticket costs and market to interested neighbors.
The primary user goals our solution supports are:
platform for hosts to connect with speakers, confirm availability, and book
create event, including invitations, RSVP, and ticketing
monetary transactions (for hosts which request it)
follow-up communications and engagement with event attendees
booking / handling $$
Because platform is new, neighbors need a lot of onboarding help to explain the process
The most critical point where the process can fall apart is the host/speaker booking.
